Inside:

Once the gamekeeper’s home on the Auchencairn House estate, Keeper’s House has been renovated and furnished to provide a comfortable, characterful retreat for up to four guests. Set just outside the village of Auchencairn, it looks out over the Solway Coast, with the sea, and a stunning beach, just a five-minute stroll away. It’s perfect for couples, families, groups of friends and walkers, and dogs are warmly welcomed.

Keeper’s House is a spacious two-bedroom home with a calm, relaxed feel. The main bedroom has a king-size French-style painted bed, and the twin room has a pair of white painted wrought iron beds.

The sitting room is upstairs on the first floor, with comfortable sofas and a wood-burning stove for chillier evenings, along with a flat screen smart TV and super fast fibre Wi-Fi. The bathroom has a cast iron roll-top bath and a separate shower room next door.

On the ground floor, the kitchen is fully fitted with a four-ring hob, electric oven, dishwasher, fridge and freezer, and leads through to the conservatory, which catches the morning sun and is a place to sit with a coffee planning what you will do with your day. There’s also a utility room with a sink, washing machine and tumble dryer, externally there is a outside tap and sink for washing wellies and dogs.

Dogs are very welcome, and there’s a fenced, dog-proof garden for them. You can park off the road, and the sea is a five-minute walk away. The house sits on our family farm, and we hope it makes a peaceful base for exploring the Solway Coast.

Outside:

The village of Auchencairn is 5 minutes away and boasts a thriving local shop where they sell all the essentials, refillable milk bottles from the local Torr organic dairy, home made cake, pastries, the shop is licensed and open 7 days a week and serve hot meals and excellent coffee.

The opportunities for foraging and eating incredible locally grown food abound, and if you would like to either pick and choose your own vegetables and fruit, or would like a veg basket to be left in the tower for your arrival, please do just let us know. The fruit and vegetables are all grown in the walled garden, which is looked after by Sue Gilroy, and boasts a huge range of produce. Should you decide to come up and have a look around the walled garden, you will probably come across some friendly chickens who scratch around the stable yard and the lawn, and whose eggs are also available should you like some.

Please let us know if you would like to do some fishing as there are local guides with excellent knowledge of the coastline who would be willing to take you. There is also fishing on local loch’s and rivers if you would prefer, again, do let us know and we can help.

Keepers House is the perfect starting point for all the lovely walks that the area has to offer, and while many of these are hills (Screel, Bengairn) or the Cliffs (The Heughs) or woodlands, (Dalbeattie Forest, Galloway Forest Park, The Doach Wood) if you would like to venture across the bay and explore the beaches which you can see on the other side (Red Haven), then please do contact us to ask for tide times and what the best route would be.

For cyclists, there are numerous mountain bike trails in the area, but also, for those who prefer a less extreme experience, there are lovely quiet roads throughout the area which take you through beautiful countryside.

HORSE RIDING/RIDING HOLIDAYS: Guided rides across the beach and local countryside are available for those who would like to bring their own horse. Stabling or turnout are available.
