A house overlooking the Solway Firth in South West Scotland which exudes charm and character. It is renowned for its ‘doors open’ policy and unfailingly friendly welcome.

Auchencairn House is a private family home, but is available on request for bespoke residential weekends and events for small parties, so please do call us if you would like to visit.

There is currently one self catering property available for holidays and short stays, and this is the Tower Lodge, a Victorian Gatelodge, situated at the entrance of the front drive to the main house.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature for this plein air landscape painting retreat with award-winning artists Lewis MacKenzie and Ewan McClure. Your days will be spent painting overlooking the stunning Solway Firth and in the grounds of Auchencairn House.

Art Retreat with Simone Olivia Moritz

Sunday 24th to Saturday 30th August 2025

A flower painting workshop in the gardens of Auchencairn House where you will establish a language to express the beauty of nature on your canvas using oil paint. Making those perishable fragile plants eternal in your painting!

About Us

Auchencairn House is not open to the public, it is a private home, but is available for bespoke events and one-off holidays for small parties. The predictable experience, which can characterise a stay in a hotel is no where to be seen, but instead there is character, humour and adventure if you are looking for it. A visit to Auchencairn House will provide a heart warming and unforgettably unique experience.
