In this immersive art retreat, you will delve into painting seascapes and luscious gardens in watercolour with our incredibly talented and experienced tutor James Potter. You will paint and be tutored for 5-6 hours everyday, from 09.30 – 5pm with a break for lunch 12.30 – 2pm.

Day one. Drawing and perspective. Understanding line drawing and simplifying the landscape into large masses. Learning to see good composition and to make the painting balanced. Looking into brushes and how to use them and what marks they can make. Learning how to mix colours.

Day two. Putting down a simple wash of colour. Seeing tone and understanding how much water to add to the mix. We’ll be painting simple objects, without detail creating simple shapes.

Day 3 Creating small landscape compositions, using your drawing and composition skills. Improving your ability to see and look, going into proper observation skills Learning how to simplify the subject and to only paint what is needed to make it look real.

Day 4 and 5 Receiving individual critiques and tips on how to improve and understand the right path for you.
